Studiome: Video Production & Animation

No Description

Gloucestershire Media Group: Before we get started, how do you like your tea?

Studiome: White, 1 sugar

GMG: So tell us what Studiome is all about.

SM: Studiome is essentially me, a sole trader experienced in shooting and editing video, but I use highly talented freelancers, from animators to motion graphics artists, as and when the project requires it. We have done videos for some major names, including Network Rail, Channel 4, Balfour Beatty, The Daily Telegraph, Microsoft, Fujifilm etc. and have travelled all over the world to shoot in some great locations like Las Vegas, Austin, Iceland, Abu Dhabi, Monaco, Zurich, Paris…

GMG: Where did it all begin?

SM: It all began after I realised that I’m not very good at being told what to do. Having worked in the lower echelons of a big post production house for a few months I was adamant that I would work for myself from then onwards and so I got a commission from a local Gloucester PR firm, 10 Yetis and haven’t looked back.

GMG: How are things going?

SM: 2011 has been going very well. We’ve had a number of high profile time-lapse commissions for major construction companies, the bread and butter event videos have been rolling along nicely and we’ve produced some interesting viral videos too.

GMG: What does the future hold for you and the team at Studiome?

SM: Getting our name out there is a priority as marketing is a weakness. Now that we’re becoming more established I’m getting to a stage where I can be pickier with the jobs we take on so we’ll be looking to continue to do more out-of-the-box stuff.

GMG: What do you like best about your job?

SM: The promise that it brings; in the sense that I’m not locked into something that I can’t escape from; and that breeds creativity.

GMG: Is there anything else we should know about? Anything you’d like to plug?

SM: We make animated comedy videos which have been endorsed by Robert Popper (Producer of ‘The Peep Show’, co-creator of ‘Look Around You’, writer of ‘Friday Night Dinner’). Have a look at the YouTube and Facebook pages. We’ve nearly finished a 3d animated website for the show which we will be pitching to broadcasters and web companies.
