1.Gloucestershire Media Group: Tell us what Earl & Thompson is all about…

Earl & Thompson: Earl & Thompson Marketing is a strategic design and marketing agency creating intelligent brand communications forUKand global clients, such as BP, Lafarge Plasterboard and Dyson.

2. GMG: Where did it all begin?

E&T: 30 years ago, inGloucester, Stuart Earl our MD, was a founding member.

3. GMG: How are things going?

E&T: The market downturn has forced clients to look at their corporate and marketing strategies in a different way – they are finding it more and more difficult to retain exisiting customer and attract new ones without having to lower their prices and ultimately reduce their profit margins. This challenge for our clients has actually been very beneficial for us, as this is where we excel. Rather than just producing marketing collateral for clients, we work closely with them on insight and strategy formulation, before getting to the collateral stage – so marketing spend on comms material is well targetted and positioned for maximum return on investment.

4.GMG: What does the future hold for you and the team at Earl & Thompson?

*E&T: *We are finding that more and more clients want to use our skills in strategy and brand development, and we are expanding our team to accommodate this. We also have increasing levels of work on Business Intelligence and Data Strategy for our clients, so that we can develop campaigns to engage their audience in meaningful conversations, rather than just a broad scatter approach to communications – this approach delivers high levels of insight, builds long lasting relationships and delivers good ROI for all our clients.

5. GMG: What do you like best about your job?

E&T: Ultimately, it’s the people I work with. Between us we are able to create high levels of service and creativity and it’s a good feeling to know that you can make life easier and more successful for your clients because of the talents and dedication of the people you work with. At Earl & Thompson we have a sound, ethical approach to business – we know that if we are to prosper, we have to help our clients succeed and that ensures we do everything possible to value and support our clients for the long term, not just one piece of work.

6. GMG: Is there anything else we should know about? Anything you’d like to plug?

This year has been very exciting for us, we were voted in the top 10 of design and marketing agencies in theUKfor Integrated, Direct Mail, Advertising, Public Relations and Events at the RAR (Recommended Agency Register) Awards. This recognition is very special to us, as it is based entirely on feedback from our clients – these are the people who help pay our wages so it’s great to know that they value working with us, as much as we do with them.
