Nonapianogon (A performance for nine pianos)
07.30PM - 10:30PM | £3.00
Central—Reservation
A Nonapianogon is a musical polygon for nine amplified pianos.
Each of the nine parts of a regular nonapianogon precedes at 140° to the previous part. Although a regular nonapianogon is not manually constructible with a compass and a pianist, there are methods of construction that produce very close approximations.
On Saturday May 1st using nine pianos and a nonaphonic sound system, Stephen Cornford will attempt the live unaided construction of a regular nonapianogon by hand.
This performance is a direct response to the site – an ex-motorcycle showroom / piano storage space in Stokes Croft.
£2 in advance or £3 on the door
Tickets from Here Shop, 108 Stokes Croft, Bristol.

Stephen is a sculptor working with music, sound and noise. His interests lie in the relationship between the physical and spatial attributes of sounding objects, musical instruments and audio technologies and their acoustic properties or timbral characteristics. He borrows strategies from bricolage, process music, kinetic sculpture and the extended technique of free improvisation. His installations employ space as a physical and acoustic substance in order to provoke the audience into a durational and subjective encounter with the work. The performances employ unpredictable processes and systems to ensure that his position in relation to the sounds is primarily as a listener.
