Sullivan’s Travels (PG)
07.45PM - 11:00PM | £5.50
Gloucester Guildhall
Dir: Preston Sturges
(USA 1941. 90 mins)
John L Sullivan, Hollywood’s top director of lightweight hits, wants to make a serious social statement by filming ‘O Brother, Where Art Thou?’, a weighty novel about life on the breadline. Unfortunately his studio is expecting a sequel to ‘Ants in Your Pants of 1939’. As he knows nothing of poverty Sullivan decides to find out by going on the road as a hobo. Soon accident, mistaken identity and imprisonment teach him that things can get a bit too real. The Coen Brothers liked this classic satirical comedy so much they stole Sullivan’s movie title.
