Dan Lane is the Creative Director of Skylounge, which offers a quality character animation services for commercials, short films, broadcast, corporate promos.

His company has built up an impressive body of work with a range of companies including Aardman Animations, 422 South (for Discovery Channel), Nexus Productions – and corporate clients such as American Express (through Brightlight) and Hewlett Packard.

Dan’s trademark blend of humour, quirkiness, inspiration and professionalism has consistently garners critical acclaim, and the GMG is delighted that Dan has agreed to take you on a personal tour of his top tips for good animation filmmaking.

Using a few examples of his own pieces, but mainly showcasing other animators he admires, Dan will explain why their work encompasses the elements of what he believes makes great animation.

He will also dissect a film sequence, focusing on these key elements of design, animation, editing, camera angles and sound, and talk about how to bring these various parts together for the overall effect of the shot/sequence.

This promises to be an inspiring, entertaining and enlightening Masterclass from someone at the very heart of the animation industry. A ‘must attend’ event for anyone who has ever watched an animated film and forgotten that the characters were not real actors!
