No Description Foundation Degree Internships are being designed to provide prospective learners with the equivalent of one year at an educational institution and one with an employer and part of structured industry focused programme.

The University of Gloucestershire (part of the Skillset North by South West Media Academy) has been commissioned by Skillset to undertake the initial development of a Foundation Degree Internship in Animation (Content Development). This will potentially provide a new route into Animation for talented individuals who do not wish to follow a traditional route of academic study while providing industry with a pool of new entrants whose training can be targeted at meeting the actual skills gaps within animation companies.

We are keen to engage with industry very closely in the development of this new model learning and would like to invite animation practitioners in Gloucestershire to join us for a discussion about this new route into the industry on April 22nd at the University of Gloucestershire’s Pittville Campus. The workshop will commence at 3pm and will last for a maximum of 2 hours.

The key questions we need to answer at this time are:

  • Would the animation industry benefit from a Foundation Degree Internship?
  • What skills gaps should it aim to fill?
  • What would an industry focused curriculum look like?
  • What should the balance between technical skills and underpinning knowledge be?
