The Speakers

Aren Grimshaw is currently employed as marketing director of Tonick Media, publisher of Business Cornwall, the leading business magazine and community website in his home county of Cornwall. As a consultant he works with a range of private and public sector clients to help them get the most from social media platforms, including the delivery of Social Media training, and advising on community engagement strategies.

Aren has been instrumental in developing a number of social media communities within the South West. Within his role as lead-organiser of the Cornwall Twestival events, he managed two successful events during 2009, raising significant amounts for local and international charities. He is currently involved in plans for the upcoming Twestival Global 2010, acting as one of three UK coordinators. Following the success of the 2009 Twestivals, Aren cofounded the Cornwall Social Media Café and has since gone on to support the development of other regional networks, including the Devon Social Media Café.

He is a regular speaker on the subject of Social Media and its role within business. He presents a number of online webinars for businesses across the globe and has been active within the South West, presenting content on behalf of Business Link and UK Trade and Investment (UKTI).

Alex Sass has been working with social network theory for 12 years and has experience managing online projects, including a number of the best known dot coms. His work includes advising the Arts Council of England and the Department of Trade and Industry on the successful formation of online communities.

He was named “Best of British: Entrepreneur” by Attitude Magazine and currently works with brands including MINI, ASICS, Converse and a European broadcaster providing a crossover between public relations and social network marketing, heading up the digital team at Renegade Media, (Gloucestershire, London and Amsterdam).

David Phillips FCIPR is an active public relations practitioner, he has been involved in internet communications for 20 years and is the author of three books about online public relations.

He is a well known speaker on both sides of the Atlantic and lectures in public relations and online PR at Universities in the UK and Portugal where he is professor of public relations in the School of communications Lisbon.

Michael White is the CIPR Student Representative for the University of Gloucestershire. Michael has been surfing the internet since the age of 5, became a Delphi programmer at 8 and moved to online scripting at the age of 11.

He is a past columnist for ‘Your Local Guardian’ online and the University’s newspaper ‘Space’. He is a published poet, aspiring author, prolific blogger and presenter on the University’s radio station.
