One of The GMG's Preferred Supplier Takes Up Challenge with Olympic Legends
Head of Commercial Property at Cheltenham law firm Rickerbys LLP, Mark Fabian, has taken up a cycling challenge to raise money for charity.
Having successfully completed London to Paris in summer 2008, Mark was keen to take on an even bigger challenge.
The Olympic legend, James Cracknell has already completed a number of amazing high profile achievements all over the world but he recently realised he had overlooked an opportunity on his own doorstep. He therefore organised Ride Across Britain, an event on which Mark was lucky enough to get a place.
The ride will start from John O’Groats on 12 June 2010 and is scheduled to finish at Lands End on 20 June. During those nine days, the riders will cover an average of 110 miles every day. Going north to south, they will be heading into the prevailing south westerly wind and the route which is designed to be scenic takes in lots of easily avoidable hills! The riders will be camping each night as James has decided that this will be better for building team spirit.
Mark says, “I will not be keeping up with James Cracknell but I hope I might be able to finish … or at least survive!”
“I will be raising money for Pied Piper, a Gloucestershire charity that does great work for sick children. I will also be supporting the Ride Across Britain official charity, the Paralympics – another very worthwhile cause.
The riders got together for a training session recently and, despite freezing conditions, Mark completed 60 miles in good time riding with not only James Cracknell himself but also another legendary cyclist, Chris Boardman!
