Stroud Film Producers Win Grierson Award
Stroud based Arturi Film’s feature film Mugabe and The White African, won another prestigious prize, last night, at the Grierson Awards! The producers, Arturi’s David Pearson and Elizabeth Morgan Hemlock, together with directors Andrew Thompson and Lucy Bailey collected the award on stage at the British Film Institute’s South Bank Theatre, for Best Cinema Documentary. The award was given as a unanimous decision by the jury.
Interviewed by Current TV, after receiving the award, David and Elizabeth said,
“that the further recognition for the film from these awards, named after the founder of documentary John Grierson, was very special”.
The awards ceremony will be shown the first time on Current TV on Sky 188 and Virgin 155 channels on November 6 & 7 at 9pm.
The film has also just won the Russian Guild of Cinema Critic’s Award for Best Cinema Documentary and the *Prix Italia’ the premier European TV award. *
Arturi’s film, which is currently on DVD release in the UK, theatrical release in the US and will be released in cinemas in France, on November 24th.
The film has already won several awards including the prestigious BIFA Award (British Independent Film Award), with David and Elizabeth, and the directors Andrew Thompson and Lucy Bailey being nominated for the film BAFTA Awards, earlier this year for ‘Outstanding Debut by Writer, Director, Producer’. They were also shortlisted for the Oscar nomination for this year’s Academy Awards.

David Pearson is currently directing a documentary ‘Fisherman’s Friends’ for ITV, whilst Elizabeth is producing their next film, Hollow Point , a thriller, written and to be directed by Richard Parry, which she’s co-producing with Michael Wearing (Edge of Darkness with Mel Gibson) with David as Exec Producer.
