Fashion Circus Comes to Town- 'Circue de Couture'
Last Thursday 7th May, BTEC National Diploma in Fashion and Clothing students bought the fashion circus into town with a fashion show in Gloucester. Colourful displays and performances were displayed on a professional catwalk in the Taylor Theatre as part of their final major project.
Dubbed ‘Cirque de Couture’, the circus themed performance featured designs by final year fashion students, performing arts and 1st year fashion students as models, hairstyles and make-up by the Hair and Beauty department and media students filming and photographing the event.
Accessories, skirts, dresses and paper creations were presented under the themes of ‘decades’, ‘cultural influences’ and ‘warrior’, and the show ended with the final year students’ major project pieces.
Spectator Holly Thomas from the Gloucestershire Media Group (GMG) said, “I was so impressed with the show, it was fast paced, colourful and dynamic and the creations really were to a professional standard. I thoroughly enjoyed it.”
Sarah Clarke, Fashion course leader said, “I’m so proud of the students, the show has really reflected the hard work and dedication they have put in. The end of year show is always the highlight of the two year course and this years performance was exceptional – thank you to all of the students who gave up their time to help out.”
Andy Ginn, Director of the GC Arts and Media Academies said, “The catwalk show was enjoyed by governors, industry guests, students, parents and senior staff and was a great example of teamwork between beauty, hair, photography, media, performing arts and fashion students at the college. Projects like this give students invaluable experience of working across sectors and build confidence, knowledge and skills in an extremely enjoyable way. We are all looking forward to September when we launch our new Foundation Degree in Fashion and before that, we have an opportunity to showcase some of these designs at the opening of the new Gloucester Quays retail outlet. Well done to the whole team and thanks to our guests for supporting this event.”
